Optimity would like to highlight our advisory board member Steve Mannik who has been with our team since 2017. Having spent more than 30 years in the insurance industry his knowledge and expertise have been instrumental in helping guide the leadership team when it comes to all things insurance-related.

Steve is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. Prior to his retirement in 2016, he served as President and CEO of General Re Life Corporation, an affiliate of Berkshire Hathaway, where he headed the group’s Decision Analytics (Big Data / Predictive Modelling) initiative.

Q. Where do you see the industry going?

Two of the biggest trends in the insurance industry are the growth of InsurTech solutions and the focus on customer experience. Optimity is at the intersection of both of these trends.

Q. Why are you working with Optimity?

I believe in Optimity’s mission and I love the passion and energy of the team.

Q. Examples of other success stories you have worked with?

I have been working with Ladder Life since 2016 as a Strategic Advisor and Board Member. Ladder issued its first policy in 2017 and since then has successfully developed into one of the leading direct-to-consumer providers of term life insurance.

Q. What do you expect will be the most exciting thing to happen over the next quarter / year?

By necessity, COVID has accelerated the trend of the insurance industry towards digital solutions. It has also highlighted the real need for consumers to be able to access tools to help with their physical, mental and financial wellness.

Q. What expertise are you bringing to Optimity?

I bring insurance industry expertise to Optimity and many contacts into insurers, reinsurers and other value chain companies.

Q. Favourite thing about working with Optimity and the ecosystem?

I love the flexibility of the Optimity solution and all of the possible ways that we can deploy it to benefit our users and business partners.
