Profile: Michelle Privett
Tell us about yourself.
I am a registered nurse, life insurance expert, and professional author.
What do you consider as your biggest achievement?
My biggest personal achievement was helping my father die a peaceful death; professionally, my biggest achievement has been to mentor and coach younger underwriters to grow and develop professionally.
What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?
Relax and stop worrying; have as much fun as you can before you become an adult and have real responsibilities!
How do you stay productive and be your best self at work?
Playing music through my earphones is incredibly helpful when I need to concentrate or lift my mood while I am working.
What’s your top mental health tip for when the going gets tough?
Exercise, yoga, and meditation are incredibly helpful for reducing stress in all facets of my life.
What are your top health hacks?
YouTube has great videos for helping to incorporate yoga into my day; I like Yoga by Kassandra. Fasting also helps to reduce eating the wrong (but tasty!) foods.
How do you ensure your personal and/or family’s financial wellness?
Every day I take note of what we are spending, the income coming in, and large expenses looming ahead. Save, save, save.
What’s your favorite fun activity?
We love to go to the range and shoot clays or go walk in the woods.
Who are your female role models and why?
Kristin Ringland, Chief UW of SCOR, is a role model for me; she is always poised, confident, and friendly. Princess Diana was one of my role models; her vulnerability and ability to relate to everyone she met strikes a deep chord with me. Last, but certainly not least, my mother is my number one role model; she was raised with no father, no money, and very few options yet lived a full life that included love, gainful employment, and children. She is the epitome of success in my eyes, standing up for what was right while being kind and giving to others.
